They have taken the word 'Spartan' as their war cry, taken from the film 300. It is a bit of a surprise." The film, directed by Zack Snyder, is about the Battle of Thermopylae, then a narrow pass between sea and mountains where Leonidas, King of the Spartans, faced the mighty Persian army of Xerxes. He dismissed the rest of the Greek alliance forces and stood with 300 Spartans against the Persians, holding the pass till the traitor Ephialtes led the Persians by a secret path to attack the Spartans in the rear. Fighting, the Spartans were killed to a man. It's probably not the getting killed and so defeated that the French seek to emulate but that grit and determination which brought the ultimate victory to the Greeks, for the Spartans delayed the Persians long enough for the Greeks to be able to build the fleet that decisively beat the Persians at the naval Battle of Salamis. </div><br /><br /><div align="justify"><em><span style="color:#000099;">C'est sûr, vous vous interrogez sur le "pourquoi" de ce cri de guerre choisi par les rugbymen eux-mêmes... "Spartiate" est tiré du film "300", réalisé par Zack Snyder, qui évoque la bataille des Thermpopyles ou les 300 guerriers du roi Léonidas avaient affronté plusieurs milliers de soldats perses."L'équipe a montré ainsi ce qu'exige le rugby moderne, l'esprit de solidarité, d'où le cri de ralliement, le cri de guerre 'Spartiate', symbolique de l'esprit de sacrifice".<img
